Lack of Love for the Truth
Orientation
The current age is marked by a pervasive spiritual delusion, rooted in humanity's lack of love for the Truth of God's Word.
- This delusion is not merely cultural but a divine judicial response.
- It leads people to forsake Scripture for human philosophies influenced by Satan.
- This condition extends even into the church, creating spiritual sleepiness.
A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof? (Jeremiah 5:30)
— Jeremiah 5:30
Clarification
Strong delusion is God's judgment upon the unregenerate world, not a threat to the believer's eternal security.
- This judgment targets those who 'received not the love of the truth' and perish.
- Regenerated believers are protected from this judicial delusion by their new nature.
- The danger for believers is not loss of salvation, but spiritual unpreparedness and alignment with error.
And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: (2 Thessalonians 2:10-11)
— 2 Thessalonians 2:10-11
Structure
Biblical logic shows that steadfast adherence to Scripture is the God-given means for believers to avoid deception and remain vigilant.
- The cause-effect chain is clear: lack of love for truth leads to judgment; love for truth preserves vigilance.
- This is not about earning maturity but about the practical outworking of a regenerated life.
- The safeguard is a loyalty to the Word that recognizes Christ as the only ground for assurance.
But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: (2 Thessalonians 2:13)
— 2 Thessalonians 2:13
Weight-Bearing Prose
The theological core is Paul’s revelation in 2 Thessalonians 2. Strong delusion is a judicial act of God upon the perishing world, a direct consequence of rejecting ‘the love of the truth.’ This is not general ignorance but a specific, punitive blinding. The regenerate believer, having believed God’s record concerning His Son, is not the target of this judgment. However, the believer’s practical condition is not automatic. If not anchored in biblical truth—the very truth that justified them—they risk being carried along by the spirit of the age. This alignment with error leads to spiritual sleepiness, a state of unreadiness for Christ’s return. The safeguard is not a new level of spiritual achievement, but a steadfast adherence to the Scripture that reveals Christ. This adherence is the evidence of the new creation, not its cause. To trade the Word for human philosophy is to undermine the foundation of our justification and inheritance, which is Christ Himself.
Integration
Your assurance rests on Christ alone, on God’s record concerning His Son which you believed. The call to love the truth is not a new condition placed upon you, but a description of the life that flows from that assurance. The Word is your safeguard because it testifies of Him. There is no pressure to advance to a higher tier; there is only the invitation to rest in the truth that saved you. Christ is your righteousness, your sanctification, and your reward. Abiding in the Word is not about earning vigilance, but about enjoying the One who is your life. Let this be a landing place of peace. He who began a good work in you will complete it. Your vigilance is found in looking to Him, not in scrutinizing your own progress. The truth is a person, and He holds you fast.
